The company has posted a correction to the previous announcement.
On March 17, 2023, this press release was updated with the states in which Aldi Simply Nature sold frozen organic strawberries.
Scenic Fruit Company of Gresham, Oregon is recalling organic frozen strawberries sold to Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafood, PCC Community Markets and frozen organic tropical blends sold to Trader Joe’s due to a hepatitis A disease outbreak.
Hepatitis A is an infectious liver disease that results from exposure to the hepatitis A virus, including through food. It can range from a mild illness lasting several weeks to a severe illness lasting several months. In rare cases, especially consumers who already have a serious illness or a weakened immune system, a hepatitis A infection can progress to liver failure.
Illness occurs within 15 to 50 days of exposure and includes fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver tests, dark urine, and pale stools. Hepatitis A vaccination can prevent disease if given within two weeks of exposure to contaminated food. Individuals who may have consumed the affected product should consult their healthcare provider or local health department to determine whether a vaccination is appropriate, and consumers with symptoms of hepatitis A should contact their healthcare providers or local health department immediately.

Although Hepatitis A has not been found on this product, as a precaution consumers should stop consuming the product and return it to their local retailer for a refund. The company has stopped manufacturing and distributing the product as FDA and the company continues its investigation into the cause of the problem.
